Distance Education Programme : A Precursor to National Manpower Development in Lesotho

Abstract
Many professionals in Adult Education who practice in Lesotho, like other parts of the world, need and desire furtherstudies, in the form of non-formal continuing education in order to improve their competence level. But like their counterparts in other parts of the world, both in general and particularly in the developing countries. these professionals cannot afford the cost of full-time studies because of their multifarious adult responsibilities in the society. This paper focuses on the issue of human development as a process of supplying the needed qualified manpower resources in Lesotho through the utilization of a more cost-saving device - Distance Education Programme. This will not only bring to the door-steps of the qualified and ambitious adult learners who would otherwise not have had the benefit of being properly educated due to the earlier enumerated factors, but it will also facilitate learning, thus contributing to overall improvement of Lesotho's economy.
