Attendance in Personal Contact Prgrammes and Performance of Open Learners

Oum Praskash Sharma

Abstract

Several research studies reveal that the Personal Contact Programme is a significant academic input in the open distance education system. It has also been found that because of the optional nature of the attendance in the PCPs, students do not take them seriously and thus hardly bother to attend the PCPs. However, the question arises whether the attendance in PCPs should be made compulsory? If so, will it have any effect on the performance of the learners in the examination? -With this view an experimental research study was carried out at the National Open School. The present paper focuses on the design of the study and its findings which indicate a positive correlation between the attendance in PCPs and the performance of the learners specially at the school level.
