The Current State of Experts and their Foci in Distance Education Research in China

Abstract
China has the largest distance education system in the world. In radio and te.lovsion university system, there are 25,000 full-time distance educators. In addition, in 917 adult universities and 1022 conventional universities thousands of educators conduct research in distance education. There has been a great demand for academic exchange among distance education researchers between China and other countries, but most of researchers have difficulty acquiring information about the expertise in China. This study surveys 262 experts in China and their foci in tertiary distance education research. The data for each expert includes gender and age, administrative positions, electronic mail address and homepage, education and training experience, commands of foreign languages, recent research projects, and proposed future studies. This paper reports on a profile of experts in distance education research in China. It is hoped that it will give a better understanding of the current state of distance education research in China and encourage research collaboration between China and other countries.
