Objectives are inherent component of educational transactions, and have been in use explicitly since the early days of instructional design. The usage of objectives in education has resulted in many debates thereby supporting the conceptual development and terminological changes in the field. From educational objectives to learning outcomes it has seen many criticisms, but the continuous thinking has positioned the value of objectives on a stronger footing today than ever before. This paper reviews the conceptual development of 'objectives' and their usage in the educational literature.
