The developmenr of sdstainable collaboration and consortia ' within higher education is not an easy task. This article draws upon the literature ahd the authors' first hand experience to present three case studies of institutional collaboration within the Canadian context. Each case study includes an overview of the collaboration and outlines both the factors contributing to success and the challenges encountered. The authors conclude with a list of suggested signposts pointing to the road to, successful collaboration as well as the potential pitfalls that may be encountered along the way.
