The Depattment of Open and Distance Learning at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology offers two programmes through the distance mode -a Matriculation programme and a Diploma in Commerce programme. A Diploma in Mathematics for Teachers is currently under preparation. All the three programmes are mainly printbased. In this paper; the authors discusses two projects that have been started in the Department of Open and Distance Learning to improve the population's access to distance education programmes offered at the Papua New Guinea University of Technology.
