Soft Skills and Syllabus: The Need for Convergence
Abstract
Abstract:
This paper recommends a synergy between education and skill development; the focus is on newer forms of pedagogical experiences that are concomitant to the changing phases of education and employment. The paper takes off from three major points of reference, mainly curriculum, pedagogy and employability. The learning which focuses on viable, experiential classroom situations are highlighted and recommended to keep up the pace with newer forms of demands in the 'market place'. The learner, who is no longer passive, is brought to the centre page of the educational process, enabling her/him to demand accountability from the facilitator and the methodology used. This resultoriented, experiential pedagogy as well as the tangibility and measurability of soft skills in the employment scenario allow room for competency mapping thus enabling the convergence of curriculum and career at a pragmatic level.
