Developing E-Learning Materials:Some Pedagogical Concerns
Abstract
Abstract:
E-learning has created a major shift in how teachers and students think about teaching and learning. However, learning needs to be viewed broadly and systematically. Learning theories have travelled a long way from learning as response strengthening to learning as knowledge acquisition to learning as knowledge construction. The focus of learning shifted from the structured teaching of the teacher to learners' construction of their own knowledge, which is grounded in the constructivist view of learning. Constructivism concerns with the process of how learners create meaning and knowledge in the world during the constructive process. In view of this, the context of constructivist learning has been discussed in this paper and the changing need for reflective course design for e-learning has been considered. It is suggested that an effective learning environment needs to be created while developing e-learning materials in the constructivist paradigm. How an effective learning environment should be learner-centred, assessment-centred, knowledge-centred, and communitycentred is discussed in this paper.
