Online Engineering Education: Some Relevant Issues in Design and Delivery
Michael Mariasingham, Donald E. Hanna
Abstract
This article explores in depth the possibilities for delivering online
professional engineering education at the baccalaureate level, and outlines the many issues involved in delivering these programmes across international boundaries. Successful implementation of such a programme requires careful consideration of issues related to design and delivery, including the choice and use of appropriate technologies, teaching and learning issues, and collaboration issues. Each one of these is addressed with respect to how online engineering programmes could be developed effectively and delivered efficiently. Research findings and theoretical concepts from the literature are incorporated and systematically utilized to frame overall recommendations for further development.
