Using Digital Social Media Networking Technologies (DSMNT) in ODL Teachers’ Training and Practice During Covid-19

Abstract

Globally, educational institutions, states and central universities were closed due to the corona epidemic. The search for new modes of teaching-learning and training was going on during the lockdown. In our current society, Digital Social Media  Networking Technologies (DSMNT) are considered as powerful pedagogical resources; however, they require special teacher training. Using DSMNT to support educational an endeavor leverages the benefits or gain of in-person learning groups or communities with the benefits or gain of using technology to support student system involvement or engagement.  This paper analyzes a case study carried out on a subject included in IGNOU M.Ed./B.Ed. course for teachers. The program promoted the discussion of the use of DSMNT to support activities. Therefore, this research paper aims to analyze challenges, difficulties and advantages of the use of DSMNT in teacher education or tanning programs. The research study began with a reflection of the importance of training teachers in the utilization of DSMNT and the curriculum or pedagogical use of DSMNT. The intent of this research was to provide some insight into the impact the utilization of social mass media can have on the level of student teacher’s engagement in their learning. The paper closes with a discussion on the finding relating to the difficulties and benefits or advantages of DSMNT (social networking) based on data obtained from questionnaires, observations and posts of students/others on the network. Despite the difficulties, the use of DSMNT was recognized as positive during Covid-19.
