Analyzing Needs for Open and Distance Learning Programme in Gender, Agriculture and Sustainable Development

The main objective of this study was to assess the need for the programme ‘Gender, Agriculture and Sustainable Development’ in Open and Distance Learning (ODL) at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The data were collected from 164 respondents which include 72 students, 44 employers and 48 experts. The key survey questions were on: profile characteristics, awareness about similar programmes, relevance, benefits, mode, level, medium of instruction, job prospects, scope to pursue higher education, career development, placement opportunities, interest in enrolling this programme, expectations from the programme and suggested course contents for inclusion. The results revealed that majority of respondents felt the need for a one year ODL academic programme on Gender, Agriculture and Sustainable Development with associated reasons and career prospects. In the light of the findings of the study and related discussion, it is recommended to develop a programme on Gender, Agriculture and Sustainable Development in ODL to meet the continuing
education needs and build the capacities of all stakeholders.
