Implementation of NEP-2020 and the Road Ahead for ODL Institutions in India

This paper analyses various operational aspects of school education and higher education in open distance learning. The focus has been made on critically examining the National Education Policy 2020 and its major recommendations pertaining to open, distance, digital and online education. Attempt has also been made to briefly discuss the implementation strategies of NIOS and IGNOU, policy advantages and likely challenges which ODL institutions may be facing while implementing the policy. The study examines secondary qualitative sources such as reports, reviews and policy documents through the systematic review of literature and content analysis. On the basis of the findings of the present study some gaps were identified and suggestions have been made accordingly. Recommendations presented in this paper may be useful to the ODL and dual-mode institutions towards exploring and finalizing innovative strategies for effective implementation of NEP-2020.
