Abstract

Background
One of the major responsibilities of Staff Training and Research Institute of Distance Education (STRIDE) is to act as a resource centre and conduct staff development programmes mainly for the faculty and staff of IGNOU, Distance Education Institutions (DEIs) and State Open Universities (SOUs). In this direction the institute has been organizing orientation-cum-training programmes/workshops on various aspects related to the open and distance learning system including the theme of Assessment and Evaluation for the faculty members and academics of IGNOU, and the response has always been encouraging. Considering the importance of assessment and evaluation with special reference to assignment which is a vital device in ODL through which two-way communication takes place between learners and teachers, it was felt that three-day workshop on this theme should be organized. So, that those faculty and academics at IGNOU who had joined the university in recent years and those who have not attended this kind of programme conducted earlier could get benefit from this programme.

The three days programme was organized from 13 to 15 February, 2019 and the venue was Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Block, IGNOU Headquarters, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068.
