Abstract

The second issue of 2019 of the Indian Journal of Open Learning is in your hands. Out of three articles, two are on skill education through open and distance education.  This shows the concern among the individuals on skill education.

India is facing the paucity of skilled workforce. In addition to this, issue of unemployment is also rising because there are no job skills. There are skill gaps in youth workers who will be joining or already in the labour market. Challenge is upskilling, reskilling, and making market ready to youth who are out from tertiary education.  (India’s target is to provide skills to 550 million people by 2022.)  Challenge with the organizations specially the educational institutions is developing the skill systems and how to achieve the targets.
