सार

Distance Education is a mode of teaching and learning using modern technology so that teachers and students do not have to be in the same place or at the same time. With the growth of distance learning programmes, the system as well as the structure and presentation of the course materials has led to a growing interest in learning among adult learners and in continuing the pursuit of their educational goals. This paper discerns the effectiveness of distance learning material as perceived by the distance learners. The outcomes are derived from the filled-in questionnaires received from students of the ‘Diploma in Women’s Empowerment and Development (DWED)’ programme offered by Indira Gandhi National Open University through its Dehradun Regional Centre. The data collected was analysed using statistical techniques such as frequency distribution, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Karl Pearson’s Coefficient of
Correlation. The study helps in understanding the gaps between course material designing and students’ learning in distance education.
