सार

The twin objectives of this study were to assess the demand for the sustainability science programme in open and distance learning (ODL) and to identify the major content to be covered under the programme. The study was undertaken following e-mails, and web-based surveys and data were collected from 139 respondents. The key survey questions were on needs and reasons for sustainability science education through ODL; entry level qualifications, and suggestions on broad course contents. The results revealed that majority of respondents felt the need for a masters ODL academic programme in sustainability science with associated reasons. The respondents suggested broad course contents to be covered which were categorized under nine modules. In the light of the findings of this study and related discussion, it is recommended to develop a programme on sustainability science under ODL and online modes to meet the continuing education needs and build the capacities of stakeholders closely related to sustainable development.
